Captain Neil Chitwood is currently serving as the commander of Bravo Company 2-81 AR at Fort Knox, Kentucky. He is responsible for the well-being and training of new recruits entering today's armor force.
CPT Chitwood began his martial arts training in 1993. He holds a 3rd Degree Black Belt in Jujitsu and a 1st Degree Black Belt in Judo. As a competitor, Neil has won two national and two world championship titles in Sport Jujitsu. Neil’s raw competitiveness and brutal seriousness has made him the man he is today. He is known as “the Gator” for his uncanny ability to take opponents down and finish them on the mat.
He is a 2003 graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point. His military education includes; Modern Army Combatives Course, Safety Officer Course, Composite Risk Management Basic Course, Chemical, Biological, Rediological, and Nuclear Defense Course, Unit Anti-terrorism Advisor Course, Unit Search Advisor Course, Airborne School, Ranger School, Armor Officer Basic Course (Commandant’s List), and the Maneuver Captain's Career Course (Distinguished Honor Graduate). CPT Chitwood’s awards include the Ranger Tab, Army Parachutist Badge, Combat Action Badge, Cavalry Spurs, Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, and Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, and the Overseas Service Ribbon.
In 2005, CPT Chitwood deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. His missions included route security, high profile official security, local government negotiations, and cordon and searches. In his post deployment Officer Evaluation Report, CPT Chitwood’s commanders rated him “superior” to his peers. Due to his outstanding operational leadership, his commanding officers consistently entrusted him with the most difficult missions. His unit performed superbly under the most intense combat situations and they brought every man home.
CPT Chitwood is a qualified expert on the M9 Pistol, the M4 Carbine, and the M16A2. He is a Firearms and Munitions Instructor for the M9, the M4, the M16A2, the M249 SAW, the M240B, the M2 50 caliber, the MK-19 Automatic Grenade Launcher, the M203 Grenade Launcher, the M67 Fragmentary Grenade, and the AT-4 Anti-tank Missile. CPT Chitwood is a tactical expert in Close Quarter Marksmanship, Team Tactics, Dynamic Entry Techniques, Covert Target Reconnaissance, Site Exploitation, Armed Subject Control and Detainment, Escalation of Force, and Urban Warfare.
With his Leadership and Management and Systems Engineering degrees, CPT Chitwood specializes in building cohesive teams with diverse backgrounds and improving the operational flow of systematic processes. He excels at teaching organizations, businesses, and units to operate on the highest level of efficiency and effectiveness.
